This year I am living in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. The landscape, cultural icons, light and colors are informing my work in new ways.

I am currently creating a series entitled: Return of the Earth Spirits. These pieces are inspired by the time I've spent in the Vermilion Cliffs and Marble Canyon regions of Northern Arizona, where the Colorado River borders Arizona and Utah. These works reflect the contrast between the pristine native lands; which are kept primarily in their natural state, and the generic, homogenized mass development that is occurring throughout parts of the Southwest. These works pose the thought that perhaps a time is coming when the land will reclaim itself; or perhaps through mindfulness and attention the knowledge of stewardship will become more apparent in the minds and hearts of the human dwellers.

I am also intrigued by the spiritual implications of Milagros; charms used for the divination and intercession of healing and the answering of prayers. I am equally intrigued by the idea of angels. The angels I imagine are not the powerful, mighty figures that appear in myth ,legend, and religion, but perhaps the somewhat overworked, and fractured ones, which may have lost a wing or slipper on the way; burdened by the cares of a world in great distress.

I also continue to explore the realms of mind and matter, and pursue my interest in Buddhist psychology and cosmology. Within this context, I continue to inquire into the ways in which our minds create peace or disturbance; as well as what is truly essential for developing genuine happiness.
